Bouyer is a professor at the UvA-Institute of Physics as well as at Eindhoven University of Technology, and currently serves as Chair and Director of Research & Technology for the Quantum Delta NL programme. His research focuses on the development of quantum technologies and innovations in quantum sensing.

Optica, Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, is a society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in the field of optics and photonics. Fellow membership in Optica is limited to no more than ten percent of the members and is reserved for members who have served with distinction in the advancement of the field.

This year, Optica welcomes 121 members from 27 countries to the Society’s 2025 Fellow Class, joining the over 2,800 members who have joined the ranks of Fellow since 1959. Bouyer is being honored specifically “For pioneering work on ultra-cold atoms and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates, leading to quantum sensors based on atom interferometry.”
