Laser and magnet lab HFML-FELIX will continue within a large national partnership consisting of Radboud University, NWO and six other Dutch universities, including UvA. From this new collaboration, HFML-FELIX will move forward as an NWO Institute within the Foundation for Dutch Scientific Research Institutes NWO-I, as of the 1st of January 2025.

The extension to a national collaboration means that HFML-FELIX is assured of structural funding for the next 10 years. The consortium will work towards a shared and strong national research programme, which will enable the lab to continue its significant contribution to scientific progress and the solving of societal challenges.

From the UvA-Institute of Physics, Frank Linde (former IoP professor and Nikhef director) will take up the position of interim director of HFML-FELIX as of 1 January 2025, succeeding Britta Redlich (RU). Erik van Heumen will be a member of the Scientific Program Council on behalf of UvA.

To celebrate then new collaboration, an official signing ceremony will take place on the 20th of December at 13:00 at HFML-FELIX in Nijmegen.
