Aude Corbeel won the thesis prize of the Dutch Association for Logic and Philosophy of the Exact Sciences for her thesis AdS/CFT Duality: Insights from Quantum Information Theory (A Conceptual Clarification.
The prize is awarded for the best master's thesis with a topic in logic or in philosophy of the exact sciences. This year, four students were awarded the prize. Corbeel performed her prize-winning research under the supervision of Sebastian De Haro and Erik Verlinde. The thesis prize will be awarded during the annual joint seminar of the association, on Friday 13 December.
Silvester Borsboom won no less than two prizes for his thesis Spontaneous Breaking of Global Gauge Symmetries in the Higgs Mechanism.
He was awarded the Hanneke Janssen Memorial Prize in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics of the Radboud University Nijmegen. The prize is granted annually to the best Master's thesis worldwide in the field of History and Philosophy of Modern Physics.
Moreover, Borsboom's work received the Thesis Prize in Theoretical Physics of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities), which was awarded on 25 November. His thesis work in the double master trajectory Physics & Astronomy and Mathematics was supervised by Sebastian De Haro and Hessel Posthuma.
