Since January 2012, Bonn has been a member of the board of directors of the institute representing the WZI division.

As IoP director Bonn succeeds Kareljan Schoutens, who starts as the new dean of the Faculty of Science on the same date. Schoutens was the first director of the institute, which was founded in 2011 as a merger of the Van der Waals-Zeeman Institute (WZI), the Institute for Theoretical Physics Amsterdam (ITFA) and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEF).

Schoutens' role as head of the ITFA division of the IoP has been taken on by Jan de Boer. Together with Stan Bentvelsen, who heads the IHEF division, the three of them now constitute the board of directors of the Institute of Physics.
