Grant for History of Knowledge research project

12 January 2016

Professors Rens Bod (Institute for Logic, Language and Computation) and Jeroen van Dongen (Institute of Physics) received a grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for their project 'The Flow of Cognitive Goods: Towards a Post-Disciplinary History of Knowledge'.

The grant was awarded in the NWO Free Competition for Humanities. Via this programme, funding is made available for the best research proposals in the humanities, without thematic restrictions.

Project description

Scientific disciplines are often seen in isolation from each other, a perception that is historically unjust: cross-polination of ideas takes place constantly. In fact, more often than not, this is what leads to scientific breakthroughs. In order to break down stereotypical distinctions between disciplines, historians should formulate an all-encompassing, post-disciplinary history of knowledge.
